I have been a Vegan for the past 10 years, and back then I was only plant based meaning I ate only pulses, grains, veg, nuts and fruits no alternative meats. Over the past 5 years or so I noticed the change dramatically. Now we see an influx of meat and dairy substitutes from burgers to cheese, which are mainly processed soya based. Why? I understand it gives people a transition stage into becoming Vegan if you were a meat eater, and I know there are some products like Vegusto and many more nut based cheeses out there and seitan which is a meat substitute. Now we all just want the easy way out by relying on these mock, and sometimes processed meats and cheese. Some of these products cannot be good for our health, as many people turn to veganism to achieve a healthier mind and body. Veganism should be about not wanting the taste of meat (flesh) as well as the animal welfare.
I have also fell victim to these meats and dairy substitutes many times and love the taste of the vegan junk food, but I have decided enough is enough and no more (maybe on my birthday!) There are many recipes online to make your own natural and plant based spreads, nut cheeses. You can also substitute fake meat with mushrooms, jackfruit or organic tofu in a recipe.
