Visiting Amsterdam has always been a pleasurable experience. Being a Vegan and eating out can be a challenge at times, especially if you don’t do some research before or you are not familiar with your new surroundings. Below are my favourites Vegan restaurants in Amsterdam I have found so far. Amsterdam has a huge selection of restaurants, bars, cafes and places to eat that offer a Vegan option so there is something in store for everyone.
1. JUNK FOOD BAR
Since being in Amsterdam I haven’t found it hard to eat out.
Many restaurants will cater for vegans, but one of my favourite places to eat when you just feel like having a burger and chips is the Junk Food Bar. They have a few branches around Amsterdam. See Below for Links.
Junk Food Bar has a good selection in their menu from Burgers, Salads to specials. I normally go to Marie Heinekenplein branch near De Pijp, but weekends and evenings you usually have to wait for a table anywhere between 15 to 45mins (latter mainly in the summer months) and you cannot make a reservation.
They also have outside seating in the summer. Staff are friendly but when its busy you might have to wait quite while for your food to arrive. For some reason you don’t see many children dining, and they don’t have a particular menu for Kids which I personally think they should introduce as the portions on the normal menu can be quite large for a small child.
So what are my favourite dishes. I normally go for the Shawarma Royal, Daddy Mc Chik’n and Vegan Hotdog – not all at the same time of course!!
They also do a good selection of different fries even a Chickpea one!
Overall I would give Junk Food bar a 8/10 This is because you can’t eat too much Junk food!
I stumbled on Mooskha when walking around de Pijp. It is a small vegan take-away with limited seating available. Offers healthy, organic fast food inspired by the many cuisines Amsterdam has to offer.
They do delicious cakes and there dishes are very tasty. The staff are very welcoming and food taste homemade.
I tried the Caribbean Burger –
Quinoa burger served with guacamole, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber and pickles. Topped off with sautéed mushrooms and onions, homemade mayo, ketchup and BBQ-sauce. Which taste healthy and delicious. Mooskha also has Injera –
Ethiopian light fermented flat bread served with with Tumtumo (lentil stew), Shiro (chickpea stew), eggplant stew, masala veggie stew, spinach and salad. Which i will be trying next!
It has a small seating space upstairs so it’s best to get there early if you want to grab a table.
The Golden Temple is a Vegetarian but has a range of Vegan dishes. Its been a while since last ate here but the food is great. They have a varied menu, inspiration from India, Tex-Mex, Asia and Europe. And they use as much organic and daily fresh products.
Also have a nice selection of drinks. This restaurant has been around for a very long time and you have to make a reservation otherwise you will disappointed. I find a bit pricey but the food is good and healthy. The last visit I ordered the Pizza – Wild Mushrooms, spinach, walnuts, garlic and truffle oil. Which was very filling and for dessert the Lime Pie (or raw cheesecake).
Service was good. I wouldn’t go here very often due the prices but overall I would recommend Golden Temple
